” Relax your body and the rest of you will lighten up.”
One fierce tree
The Ironwood is a powerful slow-growing tree that has survived rugged desert conditions for hundreds of years, providing a nurturing and diverse sanctuary for countless living things including animals, wildflowers, and our secret mascot, the pygmy owl.
To us, the Ironwood represents the outward force of the masculine, as well as the gentle, nurturing strength of the feminine, serving as a perfect metaphor for our approach to yoga.
A good yoga practice is equal parts strength and flexibility – Grace & Grit.
Start where you are
We have several levels of vinyasa yoga for those either looking to ease in and get back into shape, as well as more advanced classes for folks who want to sweat. Or perhaps you’d simply like to relax and unwind, in a dreamy restorative or yin yoga class. (hint: these classes are actually for you type-A’s—you just don’t know it yet).
And for the really adventurous, we also offer kundalini yoga, a powerful practice based on ancient secret technologies that will rocket you into the fourth dimension—if you dare.
You will find many options to suit where you are at and allow you to go at your own pace. We also offer an Intro to yoga weekly series for those who just want to get their toes wet.
Ironwood loves music…as Willie Nelson says, “it’s maybe one of the highest forms of spirituality.” Most of our classes will be filled with a well-crafted mix of and eclectic music. (Probably not Willie Nelson, although he’s cool; the Black Keys, Ziggy Marley & MC yogi are more our style).
We do our best to incorporate music into the sequencing in an intelligent and thoughtful way to getch’ya outta your head and into your body.
Who’s in charge around here, anyway?
Leah Bosworth is the founder and owner of Ironwood Yoga Studios. She began studying yoga in 1997 while pursuing her acting career in NYC, and quickly fell in love with the practice. Her 15 years plus of yoga experience, in combination with 10 years studying and teaching alongside Fay Simpson, creator of the Lucid Body Technique, have given Leah a deep understanding of the power of precise alignment, the intricacies of the human mind and spirit, and how to teach with an open and fearless heart.
In 2005, wanting to escape the harsh winters and confined concrete jungle, Leah’s adventurous spirit took her to the open spaces of the warm and arid desert where she decided to set up her home base and focus on her passion—teaching. In 2014, she discovered a raw industrial space in North Central Phoenix and instantly knew it was the perfect place to build her yoga home.
The stars aligned and Ironwood was born.
” I want you to be everything that’s deep at the center of your being.”
